Mission Data increases workforce by 60 percent, expands national footprint
Despite an economy that is struggling nationally and news of layoffs in the local market, one Louisville company is growing its employee base and expanding into new markets. Six months ago, local Web design and software development company Mission Data announced additions to its management team and plans to expand geographically. The company is now proud to report it is enjoying even more success than projected.
Mission Data has recently added 8 employees to its 14-person work force, engaged an advisory board of local and national business leaders and committed to a new, expanded office space in Middletown. The changes come on the heels of the company’s December announcement that it was adding executives with global IT experience and planning a growth phase that included new staff and new markets.
“It’s easy for a company to announce grand plans for the future, but we want our clients and community to know that we’re growing as we said we would, even in uncertain economic times,” said Stuart Gavurin Mission Data's Chief Executive Officer. “We’ve added some experienced and talented teammates in support of our vision.”
The new positions bolster all aspects of the business and include adding strength to its Web design and systems development delivery corps, management team, and administrative group. The company’s new hires include Jason Kirtley, Senior Designer, and Marvin Chartoff, Vice President of Managed Services. “Jason is a world class designer from both a creative and technical perspective,” said Todd Budnikas, Mission Data's Creative Director. “His work is well known and his experience lets us continue to deliver innovative solutions to our clients.”
Chartoff will lead Mission Data's growth in developing and delivering hosting and managed services. “Mission Data has been delivering hosting and other managed services for quite some time, but the demand is increasing as Web sites and applications become much more strategic to our clients’ businesses,” said Gavurin. “Because it’s now a central focus for our clients, it’s a strategic area of growth for us. The expanded services require a dedicated leader.”
Chartoff, who has nearly three decades of delivery and executive experience in the IT services industry with Ernst & Young, Capgemini, and Unisys, will also serve as the company's Chief Information Officer (CIO).
Mission Data opened its doors about 10 years ago in Louisville. The company offers high-end Web design and software development services to numerous small- and medium-sized area companies. The company’s success, long-time Manager Ann McWilliams said, has come from its understanding that a strong Web presence requires innovative, straightforward design, as well as effective use of the technology. Mission Data has long excelled in all these areas, she said.
Mission Data’s local clients include Heaven Hill Distilleries, Greater Louisville Association of Realtors, Brinly-Hardy, Louisville Science Center and Hilliard Lyons. More recently, the company has attracted a national clientele, including Denver-based Cattlefax and Seattle-based Datacastle Corp. But its work for local clients remains robust – the company recently created a unique Web presence for Bowling Green-based Corvette Nation Corporation.
To help with all this new growth, Gavurin is assembling an advisory group of business owners and executives from D.C., Boston, Columbus, and Louisville.
“These are people who have grown businesses in their own entrepreneurial space,” Gavurin said, noting the additional benefit of getting business people from around the country familiar with Mission Data. “They are going to ask us the hard questions and challenge us in a way only those outside of the company can. Continued growth and success will require us to be able to bounce our strategies and visions off of this advisory group.”
Gavurin expects Mission Data’s growth to bring benefits to the entire community. “It’s good for us, but also good for the city, because our vision is to have companies that are not from Louisville do business in Louisville.”
